MTN Foundation Launches Phase 6 of ICT and Business Skills Training for Young Entrepreneurs

The MTN Foundation is embarking on the sixth phase of its impactful ICT and Business Skills Training programme, aimed at empowering the next generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs. With an impressive equipment grant pool of N90 million (approximately $59,000), this initiative seeks to equip young talent with essential skills and resources to thrive in today’s competitive market landscape.

Tailored Training Support from Industry Giants

This phase is particularly noteworthy as it is bolstered by partnerships with leading names in the tech industry, including Oracle, KPMG, IBM, Microsoft, and Meta (formerly Facebook). These collaborations will provide participants with a robust learning experience and access to cutting-edge technology and best practices in business management.

Program Structure and Goals

The training programme will unfold over a comprehensive five-week online course, focusing on a range of pertinent topics. Participants will engage with modules on:

  • Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age (provided by Microsoft)
  • ICT for Business Success
  • Generative AI
  • Digital Marketing and online brand growth through the Meta Boost for Small Business programme.

This meticulously designed curriculum aims to enhance the skill sets of young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 in six selected states: Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Kebbi, Niger, and Yobe.

Previous Success and Future Aspirations

Since its inception in 2018, the MTN Foundation has made a significant impact, training 4,036 entrepreneurs across 16 states including well-known regions like Lagos, Rivers, and Kano. The foundation is on track to empower an additional 3,000 youths this year, providing crucial data support for seamless participation and ensuring that the top 300 participants will benefit from substantial equipment grants.

Incorporating insights from industry experts, each module will include masterclasses that underline the latest trends and techniques in the business landscape. The aim is not only to educate but also to inspire and motivate young entrepreneurs to innovate and adapt.

Criteria for Participation

To apply for this exciting programme, candidates must be:

  • Nigerian citizens between the ages of 18–35
  • Operators of a small business that is less than two years old
  • Residents of one of the six participating states

This structured approach ensures that the initiative remains inclusive while targeting those most likely to benefit from the training and resources provided.

Commitment to Digital Empowerment

The MTN Foundation emphasizes that this training is part of its broader commitment to equipping young Nigerian entrepreneurs with the digital tools necessary to navigate an ever-evolving business environment. The programme not only addresses immediate needs for skills and resources but also encourages a culture of lifelong learning and adaptation.

Conclusion

MTN’s initiative represents a crucial step in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit among Nigeria’s youth, making significant strides in addressing the skills gap and fostering a vibrant business culture. As the foundation gears up for this exciting new phase, the spotlight remains on empowering young Nigerians to realize their potential and drive innovation in the marketplace.
