Empowering Nano-Entrepreneurs in Quezon City

A positive start to 2026 greeted over 200 nano-entrepreneurs at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City as the Quezon City Small Business Cooperatives Development and Promotions Office (QC-SBCDPO) teamed up with the BDO Foundation for an enlightening session titled “Ayusin ang Pera, Palaguin ang Negosyo.” This initiative was designed to bolster financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills among the city’s small business owners.

Engaging Learning Experience

The event was presented by Chinkee Tan, the well-known Pambansang Wealth Coach, who expertly blended humor with practical advice. His engaging presentation captivated attendees, making complex financial concepts accessible and relatable. Participants included sari-sari store owners, market vendors, and other self-employed individuals. Chinkee’s anecdotes and personal challenges resonated deeply, providing an authentic backdrop to the lessons he shared.

Building Skills for Success

Attendees left with a wealth of knowledge on the essential skills, mindset, and attitudes necessary for effective business management and growth. The session emphasized key aspects such as budgeting, proper financial planning, and the importance of developing a solid business model. The encouraging environment allowed entrepreneurs to ask questions and engage actively, fostering a collaborative learning atmosphere.

Government Support and Free Training Opportunities

Mona Celine Marie V. Yap, City Government Department Head III of QC-SBCDPO, highlighted the continuous support available for small business owners in Quezon City. She noted that such capacity-building activities are offered at no cost through partnerships with various organizations like the BDO Foundation. “Marami po tayong training that you can avail,” she stated, reinforcing the importance of financial literacy initiatives in empowering local entrepreneurs.

Insights from the BDO Foundation

The commitment of the BDO Foundation to financial literacy was further supported by its President, Mario A. Deriquito. He emphasized the transformative impact of knowledge on business decision-making, stating, “Kapag may tamang kaalaman sa pera at negosyo, mas nagiging handa ang isang negosyante na magdesisyon nang maayos.” This message resonated strongly with participants, many of whom expressed a renewed sense of purpose in applying these principles to their own ventures.

Nano-Enterprise Registration Program Briefing

In addition to the learning session, a briefing was provided on the Nano-Enterprise Registration Program offered by the Quezon City Government. Participants were encouraged to register their businesses to avail tax and registration fee exemptions, reinforcing the benefits of formalizing their enterprises under local ordinances. This information was vital for many entrepreneurs, as it illuminated pathways for financial relief and support.

Voices of Support from Local Government

Among the attendees was Quezon City District 1 Councilor Charm M. Ferrer, who represents the Committee on Micro, Small, and Medium Business Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives. Her presence underscored the city’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurial growth. Through her address, she reaffirmed the importance of such partnerships in driving financial inclusion and empowering local business owners.

A Shared Commitment to Growth

The collaboration between QC-SBCDPO and the BDO Foundation illustrates a shared commitment to enhancing the entrepreneurial landscape in Quezon City. By equipping nano-entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge they need, these initiatives lay a strong foundation for future business success and resilience in the local economy.

As the events of the day came to a close, participants left not only with knowledge but also with a sense of community and support, essential for their journey as entrepreneurs in an ever-evolving market.
